Former World No. 1 Serena Williams with sister Venus and the whole Williams family had a fantastic day at the Oscars as ' King Richard ', the biopic drama about Richard Williams father and trainer of the Williams sisters won an Oscar. Will-Smith , who played the lead role, won the Oscar in the "Best Actor" category.
The film released in 2021 proved to be both a commercial and critical success for telling the story of the Williams family and how Richard's courage and determination saw Serena and Venus conquer the world of tennis. Smith had previously been nominated for the category multiple times but was unable to win one, but his nearly 3-decade wait finally came to an end at the 2022 Oscars.
The ceremony was marred, however, by a sudden loss of temper for Smith who took the stage and slapped host Chris Rock for remarks made about Smith's wife Jada Pinkett Smith .
